AUTHOR’S MAIN BIO-FACTS Was born in France, June 29 th 1900 – 31 July 1944 (Mort pour la France))Mort pour la France was an aristocrat French writer, poet and pioneering aviator. He was a successful commercial pilot before World War II, working airmail routes in Europe, Africa and South America.World War IIairmail At the outbreak of war he joined the Armée de l'Air (French Air Force)Armée de l'Air He disappeared over the Mediterranean on his last assigned reconnaissance mission in July 1944, and is believed to have died at that time. Prior to the war he had achieved fame in France as an aviator. CURIOUS FACTS The third of five children He and a friend of his, survived an air crash near the desert of Nile delta (Africa) for 4 days. (They only had grapes, two oranges, a thermos of sweet coffee, chocolate, a handful of crackers, and a small ration of wine.
