Docs for global audiences Globalization –Same doc for all. –Must be highly generic. Localization –Same basic doc, but adjusted for the local culture –More expensive since multiple docs are produced.

Simplified English Controlled vocabulary. One meaning per word. Easier translation. Easier reading for a non-native reader.

Translation Takes time and doc must be done before it goes to translation English is about 30% shorter than most European languages Need to make sure text has meaning to other cultures. Translators will not rewrite. Only use native speakers to translate into their language.

Translation problems A department committee will meet for strategic planning to identify goals for surviving in light of the new policies of retrenchment. We all have to dig in to fight the misunderstanding of management about the department needs and goals. If our current funding is reduced, we will not be able to play on a level playing field with the competition. It appears that the vice president is trying to do an end run around our department manager.
