Vocabulary for Sound

The sound of the phone caused Kara to answer it. The noise something makes.

Happens when an object moves up and down or backward and forward very quickly. I could see the vibrations of the tuning fork after I hit it on the eraser. Vibration

Volume The volume on the radio was set too high and the music hurt my ears. The loudness or softness of a sound

pitch The men made a low pitch sound and the women made a high pitch sound. The highness or lowness of a sound

frequency Strings 2 and 5 don’t sound very good, so I will change the frequency so they will sound better together. How often a pattern repeats

Decibel A normal conversation is about 60 decibels. Used to measure sound

Eardrum The eardrum sends the tiny vibrations to three bones in your middle ear. Passes sound vibrations into the middle ear so you can hear sound

Music I love listening to music on the radio. Sound created using specific pitches in a pattern.
