B ALANCE DIET Carbohydrates- sugar and fats need for energy Fibre - do not digest but pass through the body Protein – need for growth and repair Fats - provides energy for the body Minerals – controls body chemistry Water - essential for life

H EALTHY DIET IN SCHOOLS Snacks Hot dinner Sandwiches How is this monitored in school? Children need a good outlook on food from an early age to help them have a good attitude as an adult

W ELSH G OVERNMENT At present, the Education (Nutritional Standards for School Lunches) (Wales) Regulations 2001 5 set nutritional standards for school lunches only, for registered pupils at maintained nursery schools, community, foundation and voluntary primary and secondary schools and community and foundation primary and secondary special schools.
