Justinian Code Justinian put together a panel to ‘update’ the old Roman Laws into a unified law Called Justinian Code Had four works:

Justinian Code 1) The Code Contained 5,000 Roman laws that were still considered useful 2) The Digest summarized the opinions of Rome’s greatest thinkers 3) The Institute was a textbook that told law students how to use the laws 4) The Novellae (New Laws) presented legislation passed after 534

Constantinople While Justinian was waiting for the Code to be created, he began rebuilding the city of Constantinople He built a 14-mile long wall along its coastline His crowning glory was the Hagia Sophia, which means “Holy Wisdom”

Theodora In 525, Theodora married Justinian She was the most powerful woman in Byzantine history She worked hard for more rights for women
