Purpose To challenge you. To give some insight into current thinking about ICT …. mine and other peoples …so that thoughts are perspectives To discuss ideas about using ICT as tool in whole class teaching and to indicate examples of current classroom practice.

What is it we are about? For the first time ever we now know how to store almost all of the world’s most important information and make it available instantly, in almost any form, to almost anyone on the Earth

And yet …. We have school systems around the World wasting billions trying to graft the tools of the 21 st century onto an educational model designed to serve the needs of a 19 th century industrial society. We need to take a good look at what it is we want to do and how technology can help.

A Learning Revolution There is no doubt about it … the best time to develop the learning abilities of children is before they start school….. the brain’s major routes are laid out in those early years 50% of a child’s ability to learn is developed in the first four years of life This makes parents the world’s most important educators

How? We need to create the environment to make it happen Physical … Mental …the mindset Our new interconnected globalised society requires a similar model of schooling …. An adaptable model to meet the changes of pace

What does it mean to me? We each have a different learning style as individual as our fingerprints Schools that teach effectively recognise this and utilise the freedom the ideas generate

ICT as a subject Expectations of achievement are increasing, especially with the youngest children, and greater rigour is expected at higher key stages. The impact of ICT on the school as whole The use of ICT by teachers and pupils may have an impact on the standards achieved and the quality of teaching and learning in all subjects.
