Bell Ringer 10/14 List 3 types of floor coverings that are in your house. Then tell me an advantage and disadvantage of each floor covering.

Window Styles: Sliding Can operate vertically or horizontally Double-hung Vertical sliding window Simple, good for ventilation and light Can be opened from the top or bottom

Window Styles: Sliding Horizontal: Windows with 2 or 3 sashes that open like a sliding door.

Window Styles: Swinging Can be hinged at top, bottom, or sides Casement: Opens and closes with a crank Swings outward

Window Styles: Swinging Awning: Hinged at the top, swings outward at the bottom Provides good ventilation and rain protection

Window Styles: Swinging Hopper: Hinged at the bottom, swings into a room at the top Often used in basements

Window Styles: Swinging Jalousie: Series of horizontal glass slats that open and close with a crank Good for ventilation

Window Styles: Fixed Glass blocks: Provides light while preserving visual privacy

Window Styles: Fixed Stained glass: When used as a focal point, should be left untreated

Window Styles: Fixed Palladian: 3 part window with a central arched section flanked by 2 narrow rectangular sections

Window Styles: Combination Bay window: Projects outward from the exterior wall. Large fixed window in center with small double-hung windows on both sides. Not as much ventilation as a regular double-hung

Window Styles: Skylights Normally located in the ceiling or roof. Allows natural light into a room without exterior walls. Good choice for a room located in the center of the house with no windows.

Pleated, lined panels of fabric Good choice for privacy Often found in formal rooms Extend to the floor The different types are named for how they operate (draw draperies, stationary draperies) Window Treatments: Draperies

Flat fabric panels with a pocket hem at the top, which slips into a curtain rod. Constructed of unlined fabric that is sheer to medium weight Type of fabric determines amount of light, insulation, or privacy Should fall to the length of the sill, apron, or floor Window Treatments: Curtains

Horizontal panels which cover the lower part of a window Often used with a top treatment Window Treatments: Café Curtains

Horizontal treatment Usually constructed of wood, padded and covered with fabric Some are carved wood that is painted or stained Window Treatments: Cornice

Activity #1 Label Each Window STYLE on the Sheet (front and back) Draw/color a different Window TREATMENT on each window and correctly label the treatment You can even use real fabric if you want to!
