Khyber Pass is located near Pakistan- Afghanistan Border
Khyber Pass is located near Pakistan- Afghanistan Border. It is a gate to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Location Khyber Pass is a narrow, steep-sided pass, located between Pakistan and Afghanistan . The routes through it link the cities of Peshawar in Pakistan and Kabul in Afghanistan. It is located at 1070 meters elevation, where the Khyber River (Khyber Khwar) leaves the pass to the south. A railroad which passes through 34 tunnels and over 92 bridges and culverts, runs to the Afghan border. The route passes Fort Maude and Ali Masjid to reach the narrowest point of the pass.

Importance It is the most important pass connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan. Throughout history it has been an important trade route between Central Asia and South Asia and a strategic military location. The actual pass summit is 5 km (about 3.1 miles) inside Pakistan at Landi Kotal. The pass cuts through the Safed Koh mountains which are a far southeastern extension of the Hindu Kush range.

Historical Importance
Khyber Pass was a site of military importance sine the ancient times. Armies of Alexander the Great, Mahmud of Ghazni ,Timur the Lame, Zachery ud Din Babur,, and Nadir Shah used Khyber as a channel for their invasions in India. Genghis Khan, another famous conqueror of the history took Afghanistan but he decided not to move towards India.

Railway Tracks to Khyber Pass
A railway line also travels to the head of the pass. Recently, the Khyber Pass has been used to transport refugees from the Afghan civil war into Pakistan, transporting goods and food to Afghanistan.The highway over the Khyber Pass links Kabul to Peshawar. Villages lie on each side of the Khyber Pass. The people of the Khyber Pass are mainly Pashtuns.

Afridi Tribe Afridis are very brave people.
They love to sing, dance and play a special traditional instrument called “Rubab”. They are very fond of playing cricket.

Famous Afridis One of the most famous Pakistani cricketer SHAHID AFRIDI belongs to this tribe. He has world records of scoring fastest century, largest number of hitting sixes.
