What is an Interactive Notebook? A place where all of your work will be kept Notes Class work (most of it) A record of what you’ve learned this year Your own personalized textbook! A part of your AVID grade!!!

Why Do We Use an Interactive Notebook? Uses both the right and left hemispheres of the brain Sort, categorize and remember information Creatively interact with new knowledge The MORE you process, the MORE you understand and the LONGER you retain the information What you’ve learned over the course of the year, all in one place!

Two Composition Books 100-sheet Composition Book Focus-Notes (Note-taking) Composition Book Tape the two composition books together -“Focus Notes” on Top -“100-sheet Composition Book” on the Bottom

Setting Up the AVID INB 1. Number each RIGHT-HAND page 1,3,5,7,9… and so on Focus-Notes The last right-hand page should be #159 100-Sheet Composition Book Begin numbering with the number 1 The last right-hand page should be #199 2. Tape composition books together

Expectations You bring the AVID Interactive Notebook (INB) with you to class each and everyday YOU are responsible for your INB You review your INB nightly and complete any incomplete work and homework

Maintaining the AVID INB No ripped out pages or torn corners No doodling that doesn’t relate to the work New day = New DATE at top of pg. Incomplete work AND homework completed DAILY Tab important assignments/notes using post- its
