Properties of Bonds Lab re-cap
2
Lab Yesterday you discovered properties of bonds. You used conductivity, water (which is polar), and hexane (which is non-polar). Find the trends.
3
Ionic Bonds Solubility: Dissolve in polar liquids but not in non-polar liquids. Conductivity: Does not conduct as a pure substance, but will conduct in a solution.
4
Ionic Bond Malleability: Brittle Mp/Bp: High melting point
5
Polar Covalent Bond Solubility: Dissolves in polar liquids, does not dissolve in non-polar liquids. Conductivity: Does not conduct as a pure substance.
6
Polar Covalent Bond Malleability: Solid = brittle Polar liquids = liquids Mp/Bp: Medium Bp/Mp
7
Non-polar covalent Solubility: Dissolves in non-polar liquids, but not in polar. Conductivity: Not in pure substance, not in solution.
8
Non-polar covalent Malleability: Brittle Mp/Bp: Lower Mp/Bp
9
Metallic Solubility: Dissolves in nothing Conductivity: You better believe it.
10
Metallic Malleability: Malleable Mp/Bp: High mp/bp
