Functions of General Affair Committee Present by Dr. Steve Sheng-Fa Yu (Chair of Student Affair Committee) Program Courses and Graduation Requirements Present by Dr. Chung-Yi Wu (Chair of Curriculum Committee) Qualifying Examination Regulations Presented by Dr. Tai-Huang Huang (Chair of Qualifying Examination Committee) General Introduction Continue
10
General Affair Committees What Is the Role of General Affair Committees? Dr. Steve Sheng-Fa Yu
11
Our Responsibilities We help some aspects of student’s life including General student welfare and Academic works (courses/lab rotations) etc. We act as advisors for first year students until they choose their thesis advisors (monthly meetings between committee members and the first year students are mandatory) Deals with student-advisor relationship if there is a problem. Talks with failed students to understand the causes and provide possible remedies.
12
Choosing and changing the thesis advisor … Students can rotate two labs before choosing their advisors at the end of the first academic year. Both the advisor and the student need to sign on the “Application Form for Designating a Thesis Advisor” Later if changing the advisor, both the advisor and the student need to sign on the “Application Form for Changing Thesis Advisor”

Each time a student can choose 1 or 2 subjects to take. Grade is rated in three levels: two points for grade A, one point for grade B, and no point for grade C. Each student has to obtain at least two points by the end of the first year, and obtain 7 points within four years from at least two subjects.
