2 Learning Objectives To consider why people drink alcohol.
To understand how drinking alcohol can become a problem.

3 Alcohol You are not allowed to buy alcohol until you are 18. A shopkeeper or pub landlord can be prosecuted (taken to court and fined) for selling alcohol to anyone under 18. If you are under 18 and try to buy or drink alcohol on licensed premises you can be fined. Anyone who buys you a drink in a bar when you are under 18 is committing an offence and can be fined.

When do people drink alcohol? Why do some people choose not to drink alcohol?

5 The Effects of Alcohol Look at your worksheet
On the left hand side of the bottle write down the side effects of drinking alcohol. For example: being aggressive, sick etc. On the right hand side of the bottle write down how alcohol can affect people’s judgment and behaviour. For example: fighting, taking risks etc. Now feedback your ideas to the class.

6 You become more confident
Some ideas to help you... It can make you feel sick. You can make a fool of yourself in front of your friends. Too much alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning. You become more confident so it can be easy to have a row with a friend or get into a fight.

What problems did Andrew have when he started drinking too much alcohol? Add any new information you have about the problems with drinking too much alcohol to your worksheet.

8 What do you know about alcohol?
