The Nervous System By: Marlayna Botello, Taylor Gersbach, John Salvesen, Ryan Estrada
2
The Nervous System ► The Nervous system an organ system containing a network of neurons that send emotion reactions and functions from the body to the brain.
3
Major facts about the Nervous System ► Senses from inside the body to the brain and back again. ► Electric signals through the spinal cord. ► Sends messages from senses (nerves) to brain to process through neurons.
4
Major parts of the Nervous system The Brain: process signals / feelings outside and inside the body, and sends out signals for reactions/ movement. Nerves is like a highway along the spinal cord. Spinal Cords: are like a signal highway Neurons send signals from touch to react.
5
Nerve impulse From the sight of the stimuli, the nerve travels trough the body and up the spinal cord towards the brain, which then transmits and processes information.
6
How the body system works ► Nervous system is the function of everything. ► It sends signals notify the brain to react to the situation. ► Reflexes, movement, muscles, everything!
7
4 Facts about the Nervous system ► The average adult human brain weighs 1.3 to 1.4 kg (Approximately 3 Lbs)!!! ► A stegosaurus dinosaur weighed approximately 1600kg but bad a brain that only weighed 70g (.07 kg)
8
More Facts ► The fastest brain reaction recorded was 100 m/s. ► A child in the womb develops neurons at a rate of 250,000 neurons per minute.
9
Synapses ► Electrical Synapses ► Direct electrical connections ► Faster than chemical reactions. ► Happens between neurons ► Chemical synapses ► Common and have a circuit ► Happens between neuron cells and other cells throughout the body.
