Propositions for improvement of the FCD page 8: need to be open, no species added. But it is not clear its usefulness. Page 9 (table): List of constraints should not be open but match the constraints in the context scoring Need to add boxes for recording the scoring: pages 2, 3, The secondary functions are not included page 10: the pairwise of constraints does not come into the spreadsheet. Instead there is pairwise of functions.

Area of Intervention Limited access to quality seed and fertilizer, high labor cost, not organized market, pest and diseases, land tenure system Work with the HumidTropics R4D platform to organize farmers into groups/cooperatives for collective marketing. - Training Expand pest resistant beans and soybean varieties tested last season: - more farmers coverage - seed multiplication
9
Area of Intervention Low productivity of common bean Climbing beans options with source of stakes production: introduction of gliricidia, calliandra or Leucaena (Mushinga) Intermediate measures: using pennisetum/grevillea as stake while waiting for calliandra (quick assessment of cost effectiveness of the two options). - Demonstration plot (very simple and include as many farmers as possible)
10
Planning output 2 Expand pest resistant beans and soybean varieties tested last season: - more farmers coverage Trials (8) in Bushumba: Treatment 1: farmer practice Treatment 2: pest resistant common bean Treatment 3: improved soybean farmer field day (open to other farmers associations) - seed multiplication plot (2)
11
Planning output2 For Mushinga: Climbing beans options Treatment 1: local variety Treatment 2: climbing pest resistant variety + Pennisetum or grevillea with caliandra hedgerows
