Standard Objectives Describe how ice, water, wind, gravity, plants, and animals cause mechanical weathering. Describe how water, acids, and air cause chemical weathering. Soil – soils consist of weathered rocks and decomposed organic materials from dead plants, animals, and bacteria. Soils are often found in layers with each having a different chemical composition and texture.
