2 Loans for Tuition Fees You do not need to pay for your fees upfront Government loans are available for all students up to £9,000 a year Not linked to household income Loans for Living Costs All students are eligible for a minimum loan (£3,575) Depending on your household income you may be able to borrow up to £5,500 a year Linked to household income

3 Grants for living costs Government grants are available up to £3,354 a year They do not need to be repaid, i.e. ‘free money’ Means tested on household incomes up to £42,611 Other grants are available as well, e.g.: Disabled Students Allowance Childcare Grant Parents Learning Allowance Linked to household income

5 University Bursary A bursary is money from the University The University of Sheffield scheme pays our students every year and it doesn’t have to be repaid Linked to household income

6 University Fee Waivers If your household income is under £25,000 a year, and you live in an economically deprived area, you’ll get a bursary AND a full or partial fee waiver for your first year If you live in one of the most deprived areas, as defined by the government, you get a full £9,000 fee waiver If you live in the second tier of deprived areas, you’ll get a partial fee waiver of £6,000 Students from a Care background will receive a £9,000 fee waiver irrespective of postcode. 7 Scholarships at Sheffield

8 City Scholars You get £1,500 per year for every level of your course. You don't have to pay this back. You need To achieve ABB grades at A Level (or equivalent) or higher and to be living in a low participation area in the Sheffield City Region. Details There are an unlimited number of awards. You don't need to apply for this scheme, as it is automatically assessed. 1. Sheffield 2. Rotherham 3. Barnsley 4. Doncaster 5. Chesterfield 6. NE Derbyshire 7. Bolsover 8. Bassetlaw 9. 9 Global Scholars You get Your air fare to an overseas summer school, as well as tuition and accommodation whilst you are there. You need To achieve A*AA grades at A Level (or equivalent) or higher. To submit an application form online. Details There are 30 awards on offer. The summer school will be at one of our partner institutions and you'll need to go in the summer after your first or second year.

10 The following slide applies to the Masters Scholars Scheme. This is only available to students studying in the Faculties of Social Science and Arts and Humanities. If your department sits outside these faculties please delete the next slide. Please also delete this slide.

11 Masters Scholars You get The University will pay the standard masters fee towards your postgraduate study with us. You need To achieve A*AA grades at A Level (or equivalent) or higher. To submit an application form online. Details There are 50 awards on offer. We'll pay the value of a standard masters course fee. You need to start your masters straight after you finish your degree and meet the entry requirements for the course.

15 City Scholars Scheme If you live in the Sheffield city region, you could qualify for extra financial support for each year of your course depending on where you live and your grades. Global Scholars Scheme Students can apply to study at an overseas university's summer school. We'll pay for your air fare, as well as tuition and accommodation whilst you are there. Masters Scholars Scheme High calibre students in the faculties of Arts and Humanities and Social Science can apply to this scheme. The University will pay the standard masters fee towards your postgraduate study with us.

19 Final Thoughts Most students put together a personalised funding package drawn from a variety of sources The University may email you before you start your course offering you scholarships, so please don’t ignore these! Our students say that the University experience is worthwhile, academically, socially and financially And Finally… an average graduate earns £12,000 per year more than a non graduate (ONS 2011)
