6 MAPS: Fire & Alarm Systems
Fire & Alarm Sys/ Applications Freescale Products Freescale Differentiators Central Management System - Bldg Auto System (BAS Manager/ Supervisor), Gateway Controller High End with control panel interface Device : i.MXS Support of .net micro framework (MS RTOS) offering; Easy to use graphical development tools (Visual studio) Web services support in the OS; Microsoft heavy investment into energy monitoring; Security IP allowing use of IP world without hacking risks; Product availability Mid Range with web interface: MCF5445x Rich peripheral set : PCI, ENET, Serial Boot, SSI Full linux O/S support Strong family history in this market Low End with multiple end node connections: Modelo MCF5341x Dual Ethernet controllers with Switch; Real time clock for time based control; A/D and D/A for sensors and controls PWM and GPIO for motion control; GPIO for panel buttons and indicators; Product available mid 2009 Supervisory Controllers (PLC or network node/gateway) MC9S08LL, Low Voltage, Low Power, LCD controller MCF521x, MCF520x, MCF5223x, MCF5484, MCF532x i.MX RF/Wireless – MC1321x/ MC1322x Proximity Sensors – MPR083/4 Scaleable platform Peripheral Mix for this application – CAN and Ethernet with internal memory Competitive pricing Excellent product reliability The BAS Manager will primarily consist of a user interface for monitoring and configuring the supervisory and application controllers. The HMI on this BAS could be driven several ways via web interface a PC, a graphical display on a wall mounted controller or a panel consisting of a series of push buttons and switches The BAS will typically communicate and updated the sub systems over Ethernet using either: standard TCP, an Industrial Protocol such as LonTalk or finally by using a proprietary system. Other communications medium are also used, such as CAN and RF Variable speed drives for HVAC Intelligent control for HVAC HVAC accounts for approx 40 to 80% of total energy used in a commercial building. By equipping a fan with an efficient form of flow control, we can drastically cut power consumption. ABB estimates that if its drives were in operation worldwide, we would save about 115 million megawatt hours of electricity every year, the equivalent of 14 nuclear reactors. Using a drive with a 30 kilowatt (kW) motor running 5,000 hours a year to control the air flow in a ventilation system brings an annual saving of 76,500 kW hours of electricity compared with regulating the flow rate by adjusting a damper. Energy savings achieved can result in the investment to install drives being recovered in as little as a few months. Allows the easy management and operations of HVAC systems, allocating the best use of energy. Allows groups/zones of HVAC to be controlled (On/Off, Temp, Vent Mode…) Provides direct feedback from each HVAC on its current status. Intelligent Touch Controller from Daikin Provide a simple interface via colour touch screen for small groups or web browser for larger groups. Fan control (within HVAC) is another area where sensors are making a difference. Manufacturers are now producing fans that “think” for themselves. These fans continually monitor and adjust the fan speed based on the current conditions. This leads to reduce running and maintenance costs. Sensors are being implemented that can detect and measure; motion, air quality, temperature, humidity, CO2 content. Based on the input from the sensor they adjust the fan activity level to extract or supply the demanded quantity. The inclusion of intelligent sensors with the building will enable new building designs to comply with the latest legislation.
