1. The Miracle of Respect John 2:1-11

2.  Jesus Christ demonstrates great respect in this text. ◦ We’ll see Jesus demonstrate respect in three ways. ◦ For Jesus, respect is about service.  “The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister” (Mk 10:45).  The night He was betrayed, Jesus took up a towel & washed His disciples’ feet. ◦ As disciples of Jesus, we must greatly value service.  Mk 10:43-44.  “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet” (Jn 13:14).

3.  Young people (ages 18-35) are more rude today than in previous generations. ◦ They are 21% less likely to say hello to their neighbors. ◦ They are 18% less likely to give up a seat for a woman or an elderly person. ◦ They are 17% less likely to give up a seat for a pregnant woman on public transportation.

6.  God has always held marriage in high esteem. ◦ It’s God who created marriage (Gen 2:21-25). ◦ “Marriage is honourable in all” (Heb 13:4).

8.  Respect for parents is so important. ◦ Eph 6:1-3. ◦ “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord” (Col 3:20).

10.  Respect for others is immensely biblical. ◦ Every person is made in the likeness & image of God; therefore, every person is worthy of respect. ◦ “All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets” (Matt 7:12).

12.  Marriage. ◦ Husbands and wives are to respect one another.  “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord” (Eph 5:22).  “Ye husbands, dwell with [your wives] according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered” (1 Pet 3:7). ◦ Do at least one thing this week to show respect to your spouse.

13.  Parents. ◦ Scripture teaches us to respect our parents. ◦ How will you show respect to your parents this week?

14.  Others.  How will you serve other people this week?

15.  “To be respectful is to be Christlike.” ◦ Throughout His life, Jesus respected His heavenly Father:  “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Lk 2:52). ◦ How will you show respect to your Father this week?
