(1)  Data (r)evolution:  Data Traffic volume is rapidly overtaking Voice Traffic volume.  But: Voice still accounts for up to 80% of Operator Revenues.  Changes in regulatory environment:  Competition forces operators to review the cost of their operations.  Unbundling of the network / bundling of services allows new entrants to propose customers interesting deals.

Offering new services to create a synergy between both domains. Enhance existing voice-services with Web-capabilities. (e.g.: profile modifications.  Reduce Costs: One single network to manage for voice and data. Reduced engineering cost due to self-routing capabilities of packet-based networks.
