Mission “Increase the pool of small businesses participating in transportation projects” **Introduced through Executive Order S-11-06**

Goals & Objectives Establish a mentoring program that pairs small businesses with large firms. Enhance small business operations to achieve their potential. Create more small business opportunities. Provide more meaningful participation on transportation projects. Establish an entry point for small firms who desire to do business with Caltrans, SANDAG and other public agencies. Foster new opportunities for both large and small firms.

Background San Diego Calmentor Program was initiated in May 2007 Sixth cycle of the San Diego Calmentor Program Fifth cycle of the program has been completed and an awards event was held March 2015 Program Committee has developed networking and learning events, such as the Calmentor mixer and the “Learn 2 Earn” workshop 5 th Cycle Program: 21 Mentors and 23 Protégés 94 firms have completed the program since its inception

The Process Steering Committee launches 6 th Cycle of the Program Kickoff Workshop to be held July 29 th in the Garcia Conference Room Mentor/protégé applications due by August 31, 2015 Voluntary pairing of mentors and protégés with assistance from the Steering Committee

The Process MOUs due by November 30, 2015 Steering Committee Facilitator assigned to each pairing Status Reports (progress reports using Survey Monkey) Each program cycle - review and awards program Submit all program documents to Karen Young 1)Office location in San Diego/Imperial County is required for participation in the Program 2)The mentor and protégé firms are to be setup to provide architectural and engineering services 3)Protégé firm needs to have been in business a minimum of 1 year as of the start of the program cycle 4)The Calmentor program is a mentoring program not intended to obligate the mentor to provide work to the protégé.
