- These are the fresh water algae - They can be found in moist places - Their cell walls are made of cellulose - They have both chlorophyll a and b

Phylum Phaeophyta – brown algae - Pronounced “fay-o-fite-a” - These are the faded algae - their only photosynthetic pigments are those that we see in brownish leaves in the fall

Phylum Rhodophyta – red algae Their photosynthetic pigment is phycoerythrin – it’s bright red They can live at great ocean depths They do not need much sunlight
