EBSCO EDS and eBooks on EBSCOHost: high value content and access solutions for the library of the future Piraeus, Hellas - October 18 th 2012
6
Why did EDS take longer to develop / release than other discovery services? EBSCO has 17 advisory boards made up entirely of librarians Years ago, we explained to our board members that “platform blending” was possible, but would require “unprecedented development” Board members urged us not to simply release a service dependent almost solely on full-text searching Members favored delayed release over quick release without integration of subject indexes EBSCO took the advice knowing that we would be last to market, suffer short-term losses, and not be able to offer a fully featured API until May 2012
8
