2. Classification Chlorophyta is a division of green algae. It includes over 7000 species of mostly aquatic photosynthetic eukaryotics. Chlorophyta has a distinct nuclei, therefore it is in Kingdom Protista. Phylum Chlorophyta

3. Structure Most chlorophyta are unicellular although some species are multicelluar. Chlorophyta contains a nucleus and two flagellum. The genome structures within chlororphyta are all different, however, a common characteristic is the small subunit DNA which they contain.

4. Feeding habits Chlorophyta or “green algae” store food as starch. Some groups of green algae store oil and starch.

5. Reproduction Chlorophyta reproduce both asexually and sexually but usually sexually. Chlorophyta reproduce though mitosis.

6. Habitat Chlorophyta inhabit freshwater, marine and terrestrial habitats. Conditions for survival include light, carbon, essential nutrients, water quality, and temperature. While most chlorophyta are aquatic, some thrive on snow surfaces, soils, tree trunks, turtles, water fleas, and inside plants and animals.

7. Life cycle The similarities between plants and green algae fossils have led some evolutionists to suggest that plants evolved from green algae about 2 billion years ago.
