Clothing Traditional * Clothing, leggings, and shoes made from animal skins, like deer hide Modern Clothing made from cottons, denims and other manufactured materials

Entertainment Traditional * Used to play Stickball traditional game of stickball is called lacrosse today play video games and do much of the same things we do today Hoop game

Religion Past Did not view the Earth as it's mother. The word Cherokee means principle people or people of god. Cherokee people only adored the one great spirit Present All practice Christianity, but still have traditional ceremonies. A traditional ritual for the Cherokee Indians is the going down to the water ritual. Go to church as any other person would.

Pottery and Baskets Past Pottery made from black clay -crushed shells, mica, and plants for color Baskets made from river cane, white oak, honey suckle, & hickory bark -dyes were only black walnut and blood root Present Pottery still made from black clay- different types of glaze and paints for color Baskets still made from same materials as in the past but... dyes include butternut, yellow root, and sedge for brighter colors

Housing Past winter and summer houses Houses as hard as log cabins lived in villages near rivers or lakes Present live in houses much like us today Live throughout the United States Some choose to live on reservations
