Ten Minute Math Closest Estimate- 1 You will have 30 seconds to decide which estimate you think is the closest. Send your answer in on your CPS remote. How did you break the number apart? How did you determine the magnitude of the answer? If you change the numbers in the problem, how did you change then and why? 36 x 74 = 2802,8003,200

What is a polygon? Look at this set of shapes. The shapes at the top are called "polygons." The shapes at the bottom are not. Talk to your partner about how the shapes at the top are different from the shapes at the bottom. How can we determine if a shape is a polygon?
6
What is a polygon? Number your sheet of notebook paper 1 to 12. Talk with your partner about each of the shapes on this sheet. When you agree that one of these shapes is or is not a polygon write P for Polygon or NP for Not Polygon. If you can't agree, put a question mark next to the shape.

What is a polygon? We are going to play a SILENT game called “Place that Shape.” One at a time, a student from each pair will bring the shape they drew up to our circle chart. You may place the shape inside the circle if it is a polygon or outside the circle if you think it is not a polygon. When a shape is placed on the circle chart, we will all think about it without saying anything. Is it in the right place? When it is your turn, if there is a shape you think is in the wrong place, you may place a question mark next to the shape. Once all shapes are on the chart, we will discuss any shapes that were questioned. Polygons

What is a polygon? Based on what we have investigated, let’s write down some of your ideas about polygons. For a shape to be a polygon, what must be true? What makes a shape not a polygon? How can we complete this statement? A polygon must have ___ ____________________ and a polygon cannot have ________________. Polygons

Guess My Rule Today you will play Guess My Rule with the Power Polygons. One person will think of a rule and select two polygons that fit the rule to place on a sheet of paper and one polygon that does not fit the rule to set off the piece of paper. The other players must determine which pieces fit the rule and which do not fit the rule by looking at the two polygons player one put out. When a player thinks they know the rule, they can say the rule. Example: What is my rule? Rule: Has right angles. Other rules you might use could be: Have four sides/three sides/five sides, etc. Have sides that are all the same size Have angles that are all the same size Have angles that are different sizes Have no right angles Fits Rule Does not fit Rule
