Name 2 proslavery arguments
45
Answers will vary. Trade was necessary to success and wealth of Britain. If Britain did not engage in the slave trade, other countries would. Africa was already involved in slavery. Taking Africans from their homeland benefited them. The enslaved people were unfit for other work. The enslaved people were not ill- treated unless rebellious. Slavery was accepted in the Bible.
46
Name 2 antislavery arguments
47
Answers will vary. There were alternatives to the slave trade. If something is wrong (like slavery), it is wrong whether others do it or not. The slavery that existed in Africa was different from slavery in the Americas (Americas was worse). The African people were not inferior and should have been treated as equals. The slave trade was damaging to Africa. Africans suffered greatly from being removed from their homeland. It was morally wrong and, as a Christian country, Britain should not have been involved.
