The Dilemma n Veteran & Service organizations are having a difficult time recruiting new members n Perception that younger folks won’t join…they’re just not interested in club/bar environment n Where can you even find new blood? n Technology gap

First Things First n Don’t have a website? Get one set up ASAP n Have a website but haven’t updated it in years? Give it a facelift & beef up the content to drive more potential members to you u WomenMarines.org

Get On Facebook. Why? n The fastest growing demographic is in the 30+ page range n #6 U.S. site in terms of traffic n #1 photo sharing site on the web n 13 million status updates at least 1x per day n More than 3 million people become Fans of Pages each day

Online Results? n Unlike WAVES, whose membership has dramatically declined, our membership has remained constant u Without the addition of social media, ours would have declined due to member deaths u Found out about us from Facebook, LinkedIn & Together We Served u Others found us through internet search

Women Marines in Business n Newest Facebook page to start an online chapter networking with Marines in the working world to eventually connect them with local chapters

It’s a Whole New World! n Social Media is changing the game F Founded in 2004 by Paul Reickoff after his deployment to Iraq F They are everywhere—Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, MySpace, Flickr F They have 150,000 supporters & 40,000 Iraq & Afghanistan Veteran members! F FREE membership…organization funded by grants & donations F No local organizations…yet! F Young folks want to participate and be INVOLVED, not just attend meetings “I can actually ‘do’ something to help myself…it’s empowering”

At a minimum… n Consider activities with more involvement by providing: u Educational value u Support u Personal attention u Empowerment u Listening & responding to member needs & desires
