The history of Bhutan Buddhism was introduced into Bhutan in 7 th century AD. King Sindhu Rāja, an exiled Indian King, propagated Buddhism earnestly in 746. In the early 17 th century the Tibetan lama and military leader Ngawang Namgyal built a network of impregnable ‘dzongs’ or fortresses. Many such dzong still exist and are active centres of religion and district administration. Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary form of government. The reigning monarch is Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. "Wedding of Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Jetsun Pema" by Source. Pray for Bhutan Bhutan is one of the least evangelized nations in the world. Its isolation and Buddhist majority and monarchy have contributed to this. Pray for evangelists for Bhutan. Pray for radio, Internet and printed materials used for mission in a situation where direct preaching is very difficult. Pray for the tiny minority of Christians in this country where there are often reports of hostility towards Christians. Pray for translation work in Bhutan. The New Testament has been translated into the national language Dzongha but most of the indigenous language groups have no scripture at all.
