Session Overview What *IS* it, exactly? What can I use it for? What does it do? Here’s how it works Getting to it from home Questions?
3
What *IS* It, Exactly? ARTstor is a searchable collection of images from museums, libraries, photographers, artists, artists’ estates, private collections, and other institutions from around the world Topics represented in the collection include art, architecture, archeology, culture, history, literature, social sciences, and sciences Don’t think it’s just paintings and photographs, though – there are artifacts as well, like sculpture, tribal masks, and clothing
4
What Can I Use It For? You can use the images for teaching, reports, research, and presentations (enhancements!) You can upload and organize your own images AND sound files, adding to the collections You can create and organize custom collections You can share collections or keep them private You can download and print images from ARTstor There are also subject guides created by ARTstor that focus on a variety of topics, eras, and disciplines
5
What Does It Do? ARTstor allows you to browse by collection, classification, or geography You can keyword search as well Results can be sorted and/or narrowed by geography, date range, or classification It also allows you to zoom in and pan on images, for greater detail It provides detailed info, including citations, for every image (so you can document images you use)
6
Here’s How It Works In order to access the database, you’ll need to start with the Library’s homepage – so that’s where we’ll start, so you can see ARTSTOR in action: http://www.ulm.edu/library
7
Getting To It From Home Most of the Library’s electronic resources can be accessed remotely – that is, from places other than campus or the Library – via the website However, in order to use the resources, you’ll have to login Your login information is very simple: Username: Campus Wide ID (CWID) Password: MMYY ARTstor is one of the resources that can be accessed from off-campus
