DEFINITION OF POVERTY poverty can be narrowly defined as lack of sufficient food or income. Broadly defined as broader lack of access to opportunities. In absolute terms, having income and/or wealth too low to maintain life and health at a Subsistence level.

As of 2008, 17% i.e. 62 million people of the total population lives below the poverty line poverty in Pakistan rose from 22–26% in the fiscal year 1991 to 32–35% in the fiscal year 1999. Poverty in Punjab Southern Punjab has a higher incidence of poverty than most agricultural production areas across the country. Punjab lags in terms of access to basic social services and infrastructure and human development. No proper system of agriculture in Punjab. No support to the farmers by government.

Poverty In Sindh Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Thatta districts have more poverty. rural households in the districts do not own agricultural or homestead land. Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing a US$50 million project loan to reduce poverty through rural development in southern Sindh, Pakistan. Feudal system is sindh is the main cause of poverty. 51% of poor tenants owe money to the landlords.

Poverty In NWFP The North West Frontier Province of Pakistan was one of the most backward regions of the South Asian Subcontinent. NWFP remains steeped in tribal culture which causes poverty. cross border arms and drugs smuggling is also a cause to poverty.

Poverty in Balochistan poverty is higher here than any other province due to ongoing military operations. 20 per cent of its people have an access to safe drinking water. Village electrification is only 25 per cent. Only six per cent of the land is cultivable and productivity is low because of the arid conditions. province produces natural gas of Rs85 billion annually but gets Rs7 billion. 50 per cent population subsists below the poverty line.
