The NJ Registry Career Lattice Places a professional at one of ten levels based on his/her experience in the field and education One’s level increases as the professional acquires more experience in the field and higher levels of education As one’s level increases, the professional must have an increasing amount and depth of knowledge of the PINJ Core Knowledge Areas, as defined in Core Knowledge and Competencies 5

NJ Registry Career Lattice Levels Level I: Entry Level –No work experience in the field required –At minimum must meet the staffing requirements set forth by the NJ Office of Licensing in their Manual of Requirements Level II –Minimum of six months experience in the field –Must have non-credit training in the Core Knowledge Areas to achieve Level II 8

9. NJ Registry Career Lattice Levels Level III –Minimum one year work experience in the field –Must now have 6 college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas Level IV –Minimum one year work experience –Must now have 9 college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas 9

NJ Registry Career Lattice Levels Level V –Minimum one year of work experience –Must now have 15 college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas Level VI –Minimum one year work experience –Must have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a two-year degree/60 college credits with 15 college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas or an Associate’s degree in Human Services (Family Workers only) 10

NJ Registry Career Lattice Levels Level VII –Minimum of two years work experience –Must have Bachelor’s degree with P-3 Certification or any other approved licensure/certification/endorsement in Early Childhood Education or Special Education or English as a Second Language or a Bachelor’s degree with 27 college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Family Studies (Family Workers only) Level VIII –Minimum of three years work experience –Must have 15 post-Bachelor’s college credits in the Core Knowledge Areas 11

NJ Registry Career Lattice Levels Level IX –Minimum of three years work experience –Must have Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or child- related field or Social Work/Family Studies (Family Workers and Coordinators only) Level X –Minimum five years work experience –Must have Doctoral degree in Early Childhood Education or Social Work or Family Studies or in a child-related field All college credits and degrees must be obtained from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. The professional must participate in 20 hours of professional development per year in order to renew his/her Level on the NJ Registry Career Lattice 12

13. NJ Registry Career Lattice: Levels of Knowledge The amount and depth of knowledge of the Core Knowledge Areas required by a professional at each Level follows: –Levels I and II: Basic Knowledge –Levels III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII: Intermediate Knowledge –Levels IX and X: Advanced Knowledge 13

The NJ Registry Early Childhood and Afterschool Care and Education professionals in NJ can establish their Level on the NJ Registry Career Lattice by applying to the recently upgraded NJ Registry for Childhood Professionals Serving Children Birth Through Age Thirteen (now online at www.pinjregistry.org!) 14

The NJ Registry The NJ Registry records professional growth and development of individuals working in early childhood, primary education, family child care, and afterschool programs by maintaining confidential records for each member of the system Data from the NJ Registry can give a valuable picture of NJ’s workforce The NJ Registry also issues NJ Head Teacher, Group Teacher, and School-age Program Supervisor approvals recognized by the NJ Office of Licensing 15

Using the NJ Registry and Career Lattice Professionals can use the NJ Registry Career Lattice to determine their next steps for career advancement and track and plan their professional development Programs can use the Career Lattice Levels to establish job qualifications and set their pay scales Center directors and family child care providers can use the NJ Registry to track education, experience, and professional development for accreditation, licensing, and family child care registration records for themselves and their staff 16

17. Using the NJ Registry and Career Lattice PINJ-approved trainers: –Can determine the NJ Registry Career Lattice Level of the target audience: Basic Intermediate Advanced –Develop and offer trainings that are appropriate to the Level of the target audience 17

Using the NJ Registry and Career Lattice PINJ-approved trainers: –Can enter their contact information and areas of expertise into PINJ’s Directory of Instructional Resources, available at www.pinj.org –Can enter trainings into PINJ’s Directory of Instructional Resources, available at www.pinj.org –track participation in their trainings through the NJ Registry 18
