P REPARE NOW FOR YOUR F UTURE Take advanced classes. Take classes in your area of interest. Take 4 years of math and science. Be involved! Take Beyond the Books and/or do community service. Meet with your counselor regularly to ensure that you are on the right track for post-high planning. Work hard!

D EVELOP A LIST OF COLLEGES How many schools should I be looking into? Many students consider 8 – 10 schools Clear admit Probable admit Reach admit Research the schools you are interested in. Narrow your choices by considering your goals. Plan to visit schools (Summer?) Finalize your list – be ready to apply to schools senior year.

SD C OLLEGE A DMISSION R EQUIREMENTS English4 credits Math3 credits (Algebra 1 and above) Lab Science 3 credits Social Studies3 credits Fine Arts1 credit Ivy league and competitive colleges usually require extra courses: 4 math, 4 science, and 2-4 credits of foreign language. Other states/colleges may have different requirements. It is your responsibility to know the requirements for the schools you are applying to.

P OST -H IGH P LANNING D AY October 24, 2013 at the Civic Center Over 50 in-state and out-of-state post-secondary schools will be in attendance. Juniors and Seniors will be excused from 1 st and 2 nd period to attend. Please arrive by 8:00. Students must be back to Stevens by the start of 3 rd periods (10:05). “Blue Sheet” must be completed and returned before you leave the Civic Center. Parents are welcome from 8:15-12:00 $500 scholarship drawings – if pre-registered online

S TEVENS S EMINAR – D ECEMBER 5, 2013 Open to students and parents of grades 8 -12 There will be a free meal before the presentations. Topics: scholarships, post-high planning, career exploration, student growth and development, college athletics, rigor of college, and more.
