Johann Lamont was elected leader of the Scottish Labour Party in December 2011. She was born in Glasgow and became involved in politics when she was a student at Glasgow University. She joined the Labour party as a teenager. She became the first ever MSP for Glasgow Pollok in 1999 and was successfully re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
