INTRO TO LOG FUNCTIONS

Sect 5.10 on p. 451

The assumption

Inverse Functions
5
One – To – One Functions Two functions are one to one if… The original function and it’s inverse are both functions (would both pass the vertical line test) We can test this on just the original function by doing the vertical test (makes sure the original relation is a function) and horizontal line test (would tell if the inverse would also be a function) REMEMBER… A function means that every input (x value) has only one output (y value)
6
Is the following one to one?
8
Let’s compare tables (p.452 – 453) xF (x) ½ 01 12 24 38 416 xF (x) ½ 10 21 42 83 164 F(x) = 2 x L 2 (x) – Inverse Function

Graphically
10
Back to the graphs, box on p453 xF (x) ½ 01 12 24 38 416 xF (x) ½ 10 21 42 83 164 F(x) = 2 x L 2 (x) – Inverse Function
