Exercise As a group, develop some activities or exercises for everyone to participate in. Keep in mind, some individuals attending seminar may not have a group to work with, so it should be something they can work on individually or in the context of the entire group. The goal of the exercise is to Illustrate a concept Explore a controversy Instigate discussion or debate Not sure what to do? Ask a mentor, ask coordinator, set up a meeting with your group to brainstorm.
11
Research Update Each individual in the group is required to present her/his own research in one of a few ways. 1. Write a 150-word lay summary or news story of a project/paper 2. Write a 200-word op/ed piece on your research topic 3. Give a 3-slide, 5-minute verbal presentation Writing assignment or slides must be submitted to coordinator by the preceding Thursday!! Each individual has 10 minutes total seminar time to present and discuss. This is just to get quick ideas and to get the conversation started. It can continue over email or the phone.
