P’s & Q’s A Call to Holy Living

Genesis 2:18-25 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Not So Easy Genesis 2:18-25 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Genesis 2:18-25 18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

In the Beginning… The account of God creating man and woman is instructive for WHOM God made sex No Bestiality. Animals were not suitable as help mates for Adam. God made us with His image and we are the pinnacle of His creation. Don’t denegrade the image of God in yourself! No Homosexuality. God made a woman, not a man, for Adam. He designed men and women to have corresponding and complimentary body parts and personalities. It’s unnatural any other way!

In the Beginning… The account of God creating man and woman is instructive for WHOM God made sex All About Kids! One of the reasons God made sex was to reproduce offspring to fulfill the command to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it” (Gen 1:28) All About Pleasure! God designed sex for our pleasure. Within the proper context of marriage sex brings pleasure to both spouses (Song of Solomon 3:1-5)

In the Beginning… The account of God creating man and woman is instructive for WHOM God made sex All About Intimacy! God designed sex to be so personal, so private and so open that a husband and wife share the deepest secrets of their souls All About Maturity! God designed sex to teach us about ourselves, our selfishness, desire to rule and control, and how to grow into selfless servers of one another.

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Purity Sex is a great gift from God but must be used the way He designed. We must think not what our culture thinks about sex, but what the Bible teaches about sex. We are responsible for pure thoughts despite what temptations we meet. You cannot blame your lack of self-control on someone who enticed you.

Purity Sex should not be used to always get your own way or control someone (selfish sex). Sex should not be used to demand your own preferences (manipulative sex) Sex should not be used to abuse anyone ever (abusive sex) The way you treat someone sexually reveals your heart and your intentions toward everyone.

Modest Questions What is the Occasion?
Who am I dressing for or trying to impress? How much do I value myself?

My Life What are my personal views about sex? What was I taught about it growing up? How did others handle the subject around me? What are God’s clear teachings on sex, and how can I better obey His Word and Spirit? How do I value myself? How does God value me? Do I treat myself with the respect I deserve in modesty? Do I allow others to treat me disrespectfully?
