10  It’s a Friday evening in February, you and 2 friends have decided to head into town to a nightclub. You arrange to meet up with a third friend in a local pub before heading into the town centre. The journey will take around 30 minutes each way. You are the designated driver and intend to return home.  What potential risks are involved for the driver and passengers?  How could these risks be reduced?

11  The weather is torrential rain and a blocked drain is causing excess water to run across the carriageway (60mph limit). 2 teenage friends are travelling in the car together and the driver is not speeding. On hitting the excess run-off water, the car aqua- planed and collided head on with a car travelling in the opposite direction. Both teenagers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were subsequently thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Tests later showed one of the tyres to be below the legal limit. The area is known locally to become dangerous during heavy rain.  Could the crash have been prevented?
