The mission of the WVU Foundation is to enrich the lives of those touched by West Virginia University by maximizing private charitable support and providing services to the University and its affiliated organizations.

The Foundation has 86 full-time employees, 32 development professionals employed with WVU and its affiliates and nearly 40 students who support the call center efforts.

Foundation Asset Management The WVU Foundation manages assets for the benefit of WVU and affiliates. As of Dec. 31, 2012, total assets under management were $1.2 billion. Over 90% of this amount is held in cash & investments consisting of endowed funds, non- endowed funds and funds held for related agencies (agency funds). Remaining assets held by the Foundation primarily include pledges, One Waterfront Place building and other assets.

Funds As of Dec. 31, 2012, the Foundation had 4,664 active funds, including: 1,613 scholarship funds (both endowed and non- endowed) Some funds provide multiple scholarships. 2,496 endowed funds 129 chairs, professorships and deanships

Gifts In fiscal 2012, Cash and gifts in-kind totaled $173.9 million, the highest amount ever received in the Foundation’s history. This included the largest single in-kind software donation ever, valued at $71.2 million. Not including the large in-kind gift, the remaining $102.7 million donated in FY12 also set an all-time record for contributions – topping the FY11 record high of $96.3 million.

WVU’s largest benefactors are Ben and Jo Statler whose lifetime support to WVU totals nearly $60 million.

Stewardship The WVU Foundation administers and invests funds under policies that ensure it operates in a cost- conscious environment conducive to carrying out its mission. The endowed funds are invested with an emphasis on long-term growth.

Campaign On June 2, 2012, the Foundation and WVU launched the largest private fundraising campaign in the history of the University. The goal of A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University is to raise $750 million by December 31, 2015.

Technology The WVU Foundation’s key technical partner is Blackbaud, Inc., a leading provider of software and services designed specifically for non-profit organizations.
