2. WHAT IS VITILIGO? This disease causes loss of skin color in blotches. When melanin-forming cells (melanocytes) die or stop producing melanin is called vitiligo. It can affect any part of the skin on your body.

3. WHAT ARE THE CAUSES? According to mayoclinic.org doctors don't know why the cells fail or die. It may be related to: A disorder in which your immune system attacks and destroys the melanocytes in the skin. Family history (heredity).
