14 Global Competition Standards from individual high-performing countries and provinces were used to inform the standards. Writing teams looked for examples of rigor, coherence, and progression. 17 Why are ELA standards good for students? The college and career focus will prepare students to succeed, no matter what their post-graduate plans. Expectations will be consistent for all students between schools, in district, and across states.
