2 2 Qualifications for Paid Leave Employee must be in a qualified benefits eligible position Research grant employees must be eligible for earned leave in accordance with the grant agreement

3 3 Types of Qualified Paid Leave Annual Sick Holiday Other Leave with pay

4 4 Annual Leave http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr103.pdf Accrual 1 - 10 years: 15 days a calendar year = 9.38 hours a month 11 years plus: an additional 1 ¼ day increase for each year Usage May use up to 30 days of annual leave in a calendar year Department approval required

5 5 Annual Leave Carry-over Maximum 45 days will be carried forward to the next year (at the end of the calendar year) Donation to Leave Pool Maximum of ½ of your accrued leave each year May not be designated to a specific individual

6 6 Sick leave http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr106.pdf Accrual 15 days per calendar year = 9.38 hours a month Usage May use up to 10 days of sick leave to care for an immediate family member Sick Leave in excess of 10 days requires HR approval Leave taken pursuant to this policy may qualify as FMLA leave and, if so, will run concurrently.

10 10 Military Leave with Pay http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf For National Guard or Reserve Armed Forces called to active duty 15 days: Active Duty Training Additional 30 days: For Emergency deployment purposes Long Term Military Leave May use 45 days of annual leave May use 90 days of sick leave Used annually

11 11 Military Leave with Pay http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf Long Term Military Leave (Up to 5 years) Must be part of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Noble Eagle May use 45 days of annual leave each year May use 90 days of sick leave each year Must be returned to active payroll status each year

12 12 Disaster Services http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf For American Red Cross Volunteers May use 10 days as paid leave per calendar year Requires HR approval

13 13 Blood Donations http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf Employees are permitted to donate blood during normal working hours without being charged leave.

14 14 Bone Marrow Donation http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf Employees may use up to 40 hours of leave with pay to donate Bone Marrow May require physician/medical documentation and certification Requires HR approval

16 16 Court (Jury) Leave http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf Employee summoned to court or jury duty will be granted leave with pay Important: See policy for additional requirements and qualifications

17 17 Bereavement Leave http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr109.pdf Employee is granted up to 3 days with pay for death of an immediate family member Important: See policy for definition of immediate family member and additional requirements.

19 19 Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr107.pdf Eligibility Must have been employed with the University for a minimum of 12 consecutive months Worked at least 1,250 hours Qualification Serious health condition Self Immediate Family Member Your Spouse, Your Dependent Child, or Your Parents Birth or adoption of child

26 26 Educational and Sabbatical LWOP http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr121.pdf Permanent employees of the University of South Carolina are eligible to request educational leave Requires HR approval Sabbatical Leave: refer to faculty manual

27 27 Personal LWOP http://hr.sc.edu/policies/hr112.pdf Written request for more than ten days of personal leave without pay Requires HR approval Less than 10 days must be reported through ITAMS
