Admission Requirements University Specific to institution, faculty or program Minimum level of achievement Fill seats from highest achieving students until all seats are filled Application deadline must be met (February 28 in B.C. for most PSIs)

Admission Requirements Colleges, Trades Programs & Institutes Typically seats filled on a FIRST COME, FIRST QUALIFIED, FIRST SERVED Some programs are now COMPETITVE Opening dates are important Minimum grades in specific subjects may be required May have other specific requirements May not need high school graduation for some programs

Application Process Choose institutions to which you will apply Research their application procedure Collect necessary information (transcripts, predicted grades, portfolio, letters of reference) Apply on-line (applybc.ca) or by mail Await conditional acceptance Pay registration deposit Register for courses on the date allocated Continue to achieve best grades possible!

Provincial Exams To be eligible for BC government Scholarship of $1000… Competitive (top 5000 students) Must have min. 73% in English 12 (provincial exam & school mark) Must pass one exam in each exam category (English 10 & 12, Math 10 Science 10, Social Studies 11)

Provincial Exams To be eligible for BC government Scholarship of $2500… Competitive (top 20 students) Based on exam percentage score Academic Medal of Excellence awarded to students who achieve 100% in all 5 provincial exams.

Financial Aid Student Loans * government loans given to students demonstrating financial need; students are considered a dependent for 48 months following high school graduation * interest free while in full time study Work Study * programs funded by some institutions for those who are loan recipients and demonstrate financial need Co-op Programs * students may apply for a work term related to their field of study usually after their second year

Financial Aid Scholarships Provincial & University/College * based on academic achievement Organizations * rigorous application process based on academics and other achievements – check with employers to see if they offer any scholarships for dependents Sports * mainly US institutions * Canadian institutions may give smaller offers

Private PS Institutions Wide range of private institutions offering specialty training The Private PS Education Commission of BC website maintains a list of accredited programs SchoolFinder.com provides an extensive list of private PSI training programs Careful research is needed

Housing Universities and some colleges have student housing. Check for application opening date. First come, first serve. Now some institutions guarantee housing for first year students. A deposit is required. The housing application is separate from admission. Many options available (e.g. meal plans, shared/single rooms)
