3 Attitude Makes A Difference  The attitude you bring to your job will influence your feelings of job satisfaction & your career succes  Attitude is the way you think about things and act towards others  The most important factor in job success is positive attitude  Positive Attitude is showing interest and enthusiasm about something. Chapter 9.1

4 Attitude Makes A Difference  Ways to show a Positive Attitude  View world as a friendly place  Be accepting to Others  Take responsibility for you decisions  Be honest in expressing thoughts & opinions  Control your feelings  Be open to suggestions for improvement without being angry Chapter 9.1

5 Attitude Makes A Difference  Negative Attitude is when you view a job or something as drudgery or as a responsibility that must be fulfilled.  A Negative Attitude is displayed when someone  Complains or uses sarcasm  Is critical and blames others for their problems  Are careless at work or has poor work habits  Shows indifference to the needs of other people Chapter 9.1

6 Attitude Makes A Difference  How Attitudes Are Formed  Attitudes are learned in early childhood from parents, siblings, relatives and friends  When you are assigned chores you are learning values and responsibility  Media such as magazines and tv influence your attitudes & opinions as you get older.  What positive attitudes do you learn from media? Chapter 9.1

8 Beginning A New Job  On the Job – Your Expectations  Your job (aside from tasks) is to learn & perform the duties you were hired to perform at or above the expectations of your employer  Learn the protocol & etiquette of the organization  Protocol means rules or expectations  Etiquette means manners Chapter 9.2

(Your teachers expect this because they know your bosses will too!)  Your absence could affect other workers’ ability to proceed with their jobs. They may be required to perform your assigned task in order to complete a task. Chapter 9.3

Breaks are typically 10-15 minutes.  Scheduled breaks – rest periods provided by employer to take a time out (used to socialize, eat, etc) Chapter 9.3
