Intersil also has a heritage of providing IC solutions for the most rigorous environments, including military and aerospace. We intend to leverage our in house ELDRS testing facility, long shipping history and know-how to maintain a leadership position and deliver additional content to our customers. In automotive, we’ve also been able to deliver highly reliable solutions for infotainment and LCD displays as well as power management solutions for emerging HEV/EV battery management applications. Problem with a Conventional PFC Solution

L3 is sized to meet the differential mode noise attenuation. Intersil Solution: Create an Equivalent Negative Capacitor to Cancel Effect of the Input Capacitors
CONVENTIONAL CURRENT CONTROL VLINE IL + ICIN Im iin = ip + ic iC Current Control with CEQ VLINE IL + ICIN ia iin q Assuming the PFC is doing an ideal job. The PFC is equivalent to a resistor. The current, ia is in phase with the input voltage. The reactive current ic, introduces an phase angle. This control technique is to introduce a phase lagging current icn, at the PFC stage. The amplitude of the icn is independent of load condition and is in proportion to the input line voltage. The PFC stage is equivalent to a resistor and a negative capacitor. This icn can cancel the input capacitor current, ic. Thus the phase angel between the input current and the input voltage is reduced. Thus the displacement power factor is improved. This technique dramatically reduce the limit on the input capacitors. As the input capacitor size increases slightly, the DM mode filter inductor can be reduced significantly.
