Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Meteorology Ad Hoc Agenda 13:00 Introduction & Background (Chris Little) 13:15 Challenges in implementing OGC standards in Meteorology 13:30 Proposed Meteorology Domain WG Charter & WMO 13:45 Discussion of issues arising 14:00 Examples of interoperability efforts & meetings (Andrew Woolf) 14:10 NNEW NEXTGEN Network-Enabled Weather (Aaron Braeckel) 14:20 AIXM/WIXM Aviation & Weather Info Models (Dennis Hart) 14:30 Work plan: Interoperability Experiments 14:45 Summary, way forward

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Follow-up Meeting Interested participants met 9am Wed, 1 April 2009 to discuss next steps –Proposals for interoperability experiments, possible coordination with GALEON, Oceans IE, etc. –Proposals for changes to propose for existing standards

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium MDWG Planning Outcomes 1 Open membership – OGC Members, anyone for IE, WMO members when MoU established. Interoperability Experiment based, convergence with domain ‘best practice’ (bias towards ‘near operational’). Need to include non-meteo examples –inter-operability, not just intra-operability. Need to include diverse scenarios, such as: projecting the 4D cube onto a series of maps, dispersion plume “sensible weather objects”. Use open OGC collaboration tools by preference, use external only if not sufficient. Informal steering group, based on planning meeting attendees, formalise later.

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium MDWG Planning Outcomes 2 Draft Outline plan Month 0 List volunteers with resources and commitment: CTL, SS, BD, SN, etc Planners CTL, SS(later), Mailing list moderators, Wiki moderators Document ‘best’ current practices or status quo, based on Charter, for non-meteorologists. CTL, M-FV Month 1 Advertise to communities for problems with OGC implementations, candidates for IEs and representatives WMS in particular Month 2 Prioritise concerns Month 3 Discuss and formalise plan for Boston TC (circulate at EGOWS (De Bilt) for comment Proposals for interoperability experiments, including coordination with GALEON, Oceans IE, etc. Month 3-9 WMS IEs Months 6-12 Proposals for changes to propose for existing standards. Draft WMS profile? Editor for standards documents? Metadata profile? WCS candidates for other IEs + representatives? Modelling ? Governance? Service Catalogues? WFS ?

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Motion 1 The Meteorology ad hoc WG recommends that the OGC Technical Committee establish the Meteorology Domain Working Group. –Document 09-027 Meteorology DWG Charter to be adopted. Moved: Aaron Braeckel Second: Doug Nebert Discussion: Charter to be modified to express that this DWG will coordinate through the ESS DWG. No objection to unanimous consent.

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Motion 2 The Meteorology ad hoc WG requests that OGC establish a formal MoU with WMO. Moved: Aaron Braeckel Second: Andrew Woolf No objection to unanimous consent.

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Motion 3 The Meteorology ad hoc WG nominates Chris Little as Co-chair. Moved: Aaron Braeckel Second: Andrew Woolf No objection to unanimous consent.

Helping the World to Communicate Geographically Copyright © 2009 Open Geospatial Consortium Motion 4 The Meteorology ad-hoc WG recommends that the TC approve the Meteorology WG email list be open to public participation. This will allow for broader engagement of the Meteorology community and dialogue on requirements, use cases, and so forth. Moved: from the chair No objection to unanimous consent.
