History Earlier, it was paper based. Many instruments were utilized. Drafting Board, T-Square, Triangle Rulers, Protractors, Compass Before the advent of the computers, it was utilized in engineering problem solving. For example: Electrical Circuits Development of computer technology led to development of computer graphics. USAF radar image recognition and manipulation system with light pen input followed by Graphic Editors similar to Paint or MSWord Graphics features

History Additional tools such as Graphics Tablets with graphic functions and manipulation ability enhanced the capabilities. Early CAD programs were 2D with mainly drafting ability and 3D Wireframes Solid Modelers opening a new door to tie various stages of Engineering Design and Development process as shown before in this introduction. (Inventor and Solidworks) SO NOW WE HAVE SOFTARE LIKE AUTOCAD

2D Wireframe: Displays the objects using lines and curves to represent the boundaries. 3D Wireframe: (lower right) Displays the objects using lines and curves to represent the boundaries. Using a wire frame model allows visualization of the underlying design structure of a 3D model.

3D Hidden (lower left): Displays the objects using 3D wireframe representation and hides lines representing back faces. Realistic (lower right): Shades the objects and smooths the edges between polygon faces. Materials that you have attached to the objects are displayed.

Conceptual: Shades the objects and smooths the edges between polygon faces. Shading uses the Gooch face style, a transition between cool and warm colors rather than dark to light. The effect is less realistic, but it can make the details of the model easier to see.

3D Surface Modeling don’t have density and are merely joined surfaces. Solid models have density and are not merely joined surfaces. Models are created by joining together or unioning basic primitive shapes: Box, Sphere, Cylinder, Cone, Wedge, Torus etc. and by polyline etc.

This command is used to extend the existing 2D shapes into 3D shapes. This command can be applied only to a polyline.

The REVOLVE command creates 3D solids by revolving closed polylines, circles, ellipses, closed splines, or regions about an axis in 3D space.

UNION command is used to combine objects. SUBTRACT command is used to remove objects.
