3 Guidelines 1, 2, and 3 1) Use provider sites with clearly stated terms of use for your protection. 2) Don’t try to compete with or outdo anyone. 3) Keep your postings positive and don’t attack or slander others.

4 Guidelines 4 and 5 4) Make sure your screen name doesn’t give away too much information about yourself. Also think about the impression your screen name could make. 5) Never offer personal information. 1. No last name (your own or friends or relatives) 2. No contact information 3. No home address 4. No phone numbers 5. No social security number 6. No school name 7. No email address 8. No birthdate

5 Guidelines 6 and 7 6) Share only what you are comfortable with others seeing and knowing about you. o Whatever you post is available forever - even if you delete it you delete it (other’s could have downloaded it to circulate info later) (other’s could have downloaded it to circulate info later) o Parents, teachers, team coaches, the police, colleges, potential employers can see your page 7) Check what your friends are posting/saying about you.

6 Guidelines 8 and 9 8) Never post provocative (sexy) pictures of yourself or anyone else. o Check the background on photos you do post to make sure it doesn’t give too much info about you. 9) Consider not posting your photo at all. o A photo could be altered in ways you may not be happy about. o Blur or morph your photo a bit so it won’t be abused by cyberbullies or predators.

7 Guidelines 10 and 11 10) Avoid sex talk online. o Research shows you are less likely to be contacted by a predator. 11) Flirting with strangers online could have serious consequences. o You may be flirting with a sexual predator with dangerous, life changing consequences.

8 Guidelines 12 and 13 12) Be careful about expressing your emotions to strangers. o Predators often search out emotionally vulnerable kids. 13) Don’t get hooked by a phishing scam. o Phishing is a method used by fraudsters to try to get your personal information. o If you start receiving unusual ads or messages from a friend, they may have been phished. o If you are a victim of phishing, change your password immediately.
