Formative Assessment Strategies that help Students Learn Learning Targets—breaking down GLEs into simple language for students Examples of strong and weak work. Progress Monitoring—frequent feedback about how the student is doing on GLEs Self-assessment—teaching the student to monitor their own learning of the GLEs Focused Learning—customizing instruction to allow students to focus on difficult GLEs SELF-REFLECTION—having students write about their learning of the GLEs Instructional PLAN—based on available data–have a plan for each class that covers each and every student 6

Key Features of EAGLE Student-friendly GLEs—help students learn what they are expected to know at their grade level and help teachers communicate those expectations to students. Reports for Students—foster student self-assessment and show students how well they are progressing on each GLE they’ve been tested | Encourages students to focus their learning on particular GLEs. Reports for Teachers—inform teachers how the class as a whole is progressing AND how individual students are performing on each GLE. Customized Test Construction—allows teachers to build tests based on targeted instruction | customized tests can be assigned to an individual student or a group of students 11
