Draw a picture of something you want. Underneath the picture write why you shouldn’t get the thing you want Costs too much, you don’t have any money, you need clothes or food instead, you really don’t need it to survive.

Your parents need to work so they can have money to buy everything you need as a child. House payments, car, loans What would happen if your parents spent all their money on things they wanted? No food, toys, vacations

Think of ideas of why it’s important to save money. In case of an emergency If we need to go to the grocery store to get more food Need a jacket because it’s getting cold out We need to save money so if something unexpected comes up we can go out and buy what we need.

Here’s an activity that you will be a parent and earn money to spend on needs and wants. Each person will make 50 dollars a week You have to go to the grocery store to buy food and pay bills Yet, your kid wants a toy

Work with a partner on the worksheet of needs and wants Explain why each is a need and each is a want Do you have a lot of wants in your life?

Fill out the L part of your chart on what you have learned during this lesson. Write something you found interesting or didn’t know before the lesson on the exit slip. As a class, what is a want in life? What is a need in our lives?
