2 Definitions of Exercise Physiology Exercise Physiology is the study of the acute responses and chronic adaptations to a wide-range of physical exercise conditions. In addition, many exercise physiologists study the effect of exercise on pathology, and the mechanisms by which exercise can reduce or reverse disease progression.

3 Definition Exercise Physiology is the identification of physiological mechanisms underlying physical activity, the comprehensive delivery of treatment services concerned with the analysis, improvement, and maintenance of health and fitness, rehabilitation of heart disease and other diseases and/or disabilities, and the professional guidance and counsel of athletes and others interested in athletics, sports training, and human adaptability to acute and chronic exercise.

13 Cardiac Rehabilitation- CT Hospital Exercise Physiologist\Cardiac Rehab Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six months job-related experience. CPR certification. Improves the overall functioning and well-being of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Educates patients on aspects of the disease process. Limits the adverse physiologic and psychological effects of cardiac illness; reduces the risk of sudden death or reinfarction; controls cardiac symptoms; stabilizes or reverses the atherosclerotic process; and enhances the patient's psychosocial and vocational status. Educates patients on aspects of the disease process. Preferred: Master's degree, ACSM Exercise Specialist, ACLS certification. Hours: 16 control hours; variable shifts between 6:30 am - 7:30 pm including 8 am - 1 pm on weekends.

14 Cardiac Rehabilitation- Cleveland Clinic Job Details: Summary: Develops exercise prescription and oversees exercise progression in patients with cardiovascular disease in a rehabilitative setting. Job Responsibilities: Provides patient testing before and after rehabilitation including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance. Provides exercise prescription for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen; updates prescription according to patient response. Implements concepts of cardiac secondary prevention. Recognizes contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals. Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes. Other duties as assigned. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in exercise-related field. Experience: none Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Healthcare Provider. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk. Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients. Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
